2009 Close off

Wow, been a while since I’ve blogged, mainly due to my addiction to FB games & knitting lol. This post will mainly to close off 2009 with my knits.

The last post I’ve posted the Xmas photos & vaguely mentioned bout the hats I knit, since they aren’t my pattern, I have to give the credits to the authors, so here it is.

Knit Santa Hat from Red Heart & Elf Hats from Polar Knit


I’d made 3 elf hats, the 2 in the pic & a green one with red trim, no idea where it went, either Jen took it or I lost it lol. I made the red one 1st following the child size pattern & it came out too big for Arieanna, so I started another one following the baby size & decided to change the color of the yarn as I go along, I wasn’t even counting the rows, I just changed it as I feel like it when I hit the end of the row, came out pretty cool if I may say so myself hehe.
The Santa hat is for Russ, he’s not quite a Christmas kinda guy so in order for him to agree to wear the hat is to have bah hum bug written across it so I follow the pattern to the tee till the end & add another 22 rows to get the words in.

Here’s the chart

The black & red borders on top & bottom were knitted in garter stitch, the words section in stockinette stitch & then bind off your work loosely. After binding off, wrap the yarn around the hat loosely b4 cutting the yarn, fold the word band where you start the garter stitch then sew the edge to the hat.

I used Red Heart Yarn Saver for the red part & Caron Eco Soft for the black part, I think it came out nicely & Russ actually like the soft feel of it, however it didn’t last long on his head coz it got too warm for him to keep it on. Oh well there’s always next yr lol.

Flower Power
This hat was made b4 the Xmas hats.

I love Knitty.com, it’s the patterns from this site that got me wanting to knit again, my mom taught me the basics when I was young & at that time all I did was knit & knit & knit & knit, that’s the only stitch I know & it bored the hell out of me so I stopped. As years goes by, I the knits that I’ve came across were nice but always has the ‘old lady feel’ written all over them so even though I still have the lingering urge of wanting to learn to knit, I’ve always felt that knitting is for retired, old & wrinkled white hair grandma, not for me, at least not yet lol.

Fast forward to present, shortly after Arieanna was born, I started to notice a lot of cute & stylish knitwear for babies, which makes me wanna knit even more coz I really want to knit something for her myself, so I sat in front my then trusty pc & start doing some research bout learning to knit, at the same time bracing myself for lotsa old granny feel knits if I ever do find any but when I came across knitty.com & browsed through their pattern, man was I stunned, not only are their patterns absolutely gorgeous, they are stylish too! not to mention all FREE~! When I saw that hat, I was like…. OMG! I gota make that for her! Of coz at that time I was so new to knitting that it looks like a project for experienced knitter so I saved the pattern & look for beginner’s stuffs to work on 1st. After like 6 months, I finally sumed up the courage to work on it & surprisingly, it wasn’t that hard lol.

Now that I see her wearing it, man was I glad I picked up knitting again lol.

Yes I do have better things to do then to torture her but I just love to doll her up even if we have nowhere to go, especially now that her hair is long enough got me to play with. I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again, she is my doll! So I can dress her & play with her hair & everything else I wanna do & there’s not a damn thing she or anyone else can say or do about it :P mwahahahaha!
